Back Bay Cookies

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2/3 cup butter, at room temperature

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2/3 cup golden raisins

  • 1/2 cup chestnuts, chopped


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease two baking sheets.

Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar.  Beat in the eggs.  Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.  Fold in the raisins and chestnuts.

Drop the dough by spoonfuls 1-1/2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly colored.  Transfer to wire racks to cool.
